The types of work I can help with.

My freelance work covers the entire spectrum of web development from designing and building basic to complex websites.

The list below shows the various jobs and tasks I'm currently doing. Your project could consist of one, several or all of these. The list on the right may be more suited to those who already know what these various languages are; so, for those less geeky, there is some information that may help you understand some of the techno babble involved with building a website.

Whatever web project you can think up, I can help you do it.

The Details

Web Design & Basic Coding

All sites need at least two things: Design & Coding. For many websites, that is all they need.

The design is simply how the page is going to look, and the coding is the basic programming needed to turn that design into a functioning website.

Some clients may need both pieces, while others may already have a designer/design and just need the coding. The basic coding is done with two "languages", HTML and CSS.

Programming

Professional and standards compliant HTML code is written today in something called XHTML 1.0 and can be done in Transitional or Strict forms. Basically this means the code is professionally written and is up-to-date to assure it will be the most compatible and well built that it can be.

A basic website like this is considered static, meaning it is what it is and won't change until someone manually does it. This works for many websites, but it requires hiring or getting someone with knowledge of HTML & CSS to make any changes to their site.

If you need more something more dynamic or with more interactivity or flexibility, or if you need custom applications, such as an e-commerce section (shopping carts & online stores), these can be accomplished with programming using any number of programming languages available today. These have names like PHP, ASP, Java, Javascript, AJAX, Actionscript, etc.

If you need the ability to change and update your website yourself, a Content Management System (CMS) may be helpful. It is a way to easily change your site online without having to know how to program. This can raise the cost of your site but if you are going to be making a lot of changes to your site the cost of hiring someone every time may be more expensive in the long run. This is something that can be discussed and looked at as you are planning and budgeting for your site.

Website Maintenance & Updates

Once you have your site up, there will be times when you want to update your site. This might be as simple as changing an email address or some text, or adding a new section or page.

Supplemental Skills

During the process of creating a website, you may need photos or video taken or edited.
